Glenn Lisa IT consultant SpotlightAt MDI Group, we’re all about people. We believe it’s more fun to work with a company when you get to know the faces behind the scenes. That’s why we take every opportunity to show off our team of awesome employees. Every month, our blog features one of our dedicated consultants so you can get the inside scoop on who you’re working with.

With the fun and excitement of the holidays around the corner, we’ve decided to feature not just one, but two great MDI Group employees this month. For the first time in a Consultant Spotlight, say hello to our December Duo, Glenn Weaver and Lisa Maronie!

Glenn Weaver

Position: IT Communications Specialist

Location: Greenville, SC

Years with MDI Group: 2.5

Professional Background in One Sentence:

An educated professional with experience in bringing dynamic and informative information to internal and external customers, utilizing effective market positioning, creating and executing a corporate brand, print and web publishing, networking skills, and graphic design.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Everything I work on is internal. Typically, there are multiple jobs happening at once, so it truly depends on the situation. I need to be ready to adapt and shift gears to a different project as business priorities can change rapidly. For instance, a graphic design project can quickly be intermingled with a video editing project. So, whether it is website design/layout, awareness posters, a video, or writing an article on a specific tool used within Engineering, I need to be prepared technically and creatively to complete various jobs efficiently and professionally.

What brought you to MDI Group?

A friend referral.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Having the opportunity to meet and collaborate with smart and professional people on some really interesting projects, but I have also developed a reputation for quality work, so I am trusted to work fairly independently in between those meetings to get things done. I am also constantly learning, which keeps my work fresh.

What IT project have you been involved with most recently?

Internal project related to website design/layout, graphic design, and video.

What advice do you have for someone just starting out in their IT career – what technologies or skills do you think they need to pursue to prepare for the future?

As a hard skill, I would say they should know how to write code. Overall, good verbal and written communication will always be important.

When not working, where can we expect to find you? What are your interests and hobbies?

Most likely, doing something with my family.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

Being from Pittsburgh, I am a die-hard Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers fan.

J. Lisa Maronie

Position: IT Communications Specialist

Location: Greenville, SC

Years with MDI Group: 2+

Professional Background in One Sentence:

I’m a versatile “company voice” with 15 years of experience in corporate and marketing communications for IT, manufacturing, non-profit, and financial services industries.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I never know, but it’s usually at lightning speed as I respond to new and urgent job requests. I am fortunate that my job offers much variety – crafting communication strategies, maintaining websites, designing posters, interviewing SMEs, composing mass announcements, etc.  Things move fast and change often, requiring me to adjust and reprioritize accordingly.

What brought you to MDI Group?

A great opportunity to work at a progressive company using my creative, technical, organizational and interpersonal skills.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I love GE’s commitment to community service and the fact that I get to participate each month and document our accomplishments via articles and pictures.

What IT project have you been involved with most recently?

I’m currently working on several ongoing projects. My primary responsibility is ensuring end users know all they need to know regarding software enhancements and upgrades, and with customers across businesses, I tackle multiple projects each day.

What advice do you have for someone just starting out in their IT career – what technologies or skills do you think they need to pursue to prepare for the future?

Keep your eyes and ears open to learn outside of your scope. You’ll better understand how the business operates and how departments and organizations impact one another. Also, be thoughtful and assertive…Draw on your knowledge and experience, and speak up.

When not working, where can we expect to find you? What are your interests and hobbies?

Likely chauffeuring my kids to various activities. I love thrifting and antique treasure hunting, gardening and photography.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

My family doesn’t believe I’m quiet and reserved at work because I’m so outspoken at home. I’m simply an introvert who believes there’s great value in listening.
