Ella Koscik, MDI CEO, Named Owner of year by National Association of Women Business Owners

ATLANTA – Ella Koscik, owner and CEO of Management Decisions Inc., has been named "Business Owner of the Year" by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Atlanta Chapter. Rona Wells, Atlanta NAWBO president, presented the award during ceremonies attended by more than 200 people at the Cobb Galleria Center May 5. "Ella is a leader among leaders. She doesn't follow the trends, she starts them," declared Wells.

"The top award is the Business Owner of the Year, and it goes to a woman who exemplifies everything everyone else wants to be," says NAWBO member Judy Scherer, who has chaired the awards event in the past. "This year, Ella met all of the award criteria and more. She is certainly a winner."

Koscik's firm provides IT consulting and Medical staffing and has grown from $1 million in revenue in 1994 to projecting over $52 million for 2005. Both Women's Enterprise magazine and DiversityBusiness.com have cited MDI as one of the largest woman-owned firms in the country.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the many challenges associated with my business, but I owe MDI's success to our people. They have really built MDI into what it is today," said Koscik.

A committee reviews the annual NAWBO nominations and presents a few finalists to celebrity judges to vote on winners. Laura Huckabee from Atlanta News Channel 46, Attorney Evelyn Ashley, founder of Red Hot Law Group, and Maura McKenna, vice president of Bank of North Georgia, made the final selections. Their judging criteria included the following: Women should be mentors, well rounded in business, a success story, and a role model.

Previous NAWBO winners were Barbara Babbitt Kaufman, founder and CEO of Chapter 11 Books; Addie Mathes, president of Prime Power Services; and Sheila Lowden, Lowden and Associates.

NAWBO had more than 100 nominations this year. The awards are open to all Metro-Atlanta women business owners who are majority owners of a company.
