The development of “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) is a pressing issue for today’s CIO. The main challenge with BYOD is maintaining information security while adapting to new technology and allowing employees to use their preferred devices. Protecting your company’s information is critical, but achieving this goal while simultaneously satisfying your IT staff and other employees can be tricky. The solution isn’t as easy as an “either/or” answer between complete lock-down and complete freedom.

One Chief Security Officer suggests that the corporate IT department will have to be reinvented to meet all the needs of the BYOD trend. Because devices and applications change continuously, a policy-based approach will be more effective than the standard, large-scale corporate infrastructure of the past. IT departments need to have a working framework to guide decisions about employee preferences and needs.
